Writing Wonders!

Pens of Power ensure the importance of Writing skills begins at an early age!

It has been another hectic week, but I have really enjoyed popping into classes to monitor how children are engaging with their English sessions, whether this be reading and/or writing. I have been pleased with the level of participation and happy that many children are really taking charge of their own learning and producing some interesting pieces. Across Norfolk, Writing seems to be a regular challenge to achieve the strongest of outcomes, so it is important that we as a school maintain a high profile to ensure attainment of our pupils is the best it can be.

It does make me smile to see the children in Reception class using their "Pens of Power" and carrying around little notebooks where they are jotting down different marks and words. The children clip them on to their tops and wander around in the classroom pretending to be in the travel agents or mimicking the teacher calling the register. Then we have children using the mini-easel to write some of the new sounds in words they have been taught that day in Phonics. All that is child-initiated and independent, which is fantastic to see taking place on a daily basis.

Next week, the SENDCO team and I will be meeting with teachers across the Federation to discuss pupil progress, how they feel class attainment is going, any support they need and what further steps are required to achieve even stronger outcomes from the pupils.

Have a relaxing weekend everyone!
